NEW STUDENTS!

Welcome to our dance community. We are thrilled that you have decided to learn how to dance. Whether your motivation is to exercise, challenge yourself with a new hobby, or to meet great people and expand your social circle we are excited to see you here at the

1.     What dance should I learn?
Start by asking yourself where you see yourself dancing socially.
Latin clubs = Salsa, Cha Cha and Bachata.
Blues Bars and Lounges = West Coast Swing
Milongas or trips to Argentina = Argentine Tango

2.    What class should I take?
Start with Foundations Part 1 of the dance that interests you
the most. We assume that everyone at this level has no prior
dance experience. Check out the class schedule and sign up for
our newsletter to stay up-to-date with the latest SDS news.

3.    Do I need to pre-register?
No. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your first class so we can
register you prior to the class. Remember your first class at
SDS is free. Please fill out the registration form and bring it to
your first class to expedite check-in.

4.    Do I need a dance partner?
No. We rotate partners throughout class. We believe it makes for
better leaders and followers and a more social class experience.
However, you are welcome to take class with a specific partner and
opt out of the rotation if you wish to stay together.

5.     What should I wear to class?
Comfortable clothing that you love and clean leather soled shoes or
dance shoes. We also sell Comfort brand dance shoes at the studio.

6.    How do I purchase lessons?
Remember your first class at SDS is free. To purchase classes beyond
that, see the pricing page for details. Most people decide to purchase a
5 or 10 class package. The lessons are good 1 year from your date of
purchase and you may use them for any of the regularly scheduled
classes at the studio.

7.     How do I become a good dancer?
Take group classes to learn the steps and basics of lead and follow.
Take private lessons to fine-tune your skills and accelerate your learning.
Go social dancing and dance with as many people as possible from
beginners to professionals.

8.    Where do I practice?
Come to the monthly & weekly socials. We have Latin dances on the 1st & 3rd
Fridays, Swing on the 2nd Saturday and Tango on the 4th Saturday of each
month. For more information see our events page. In addition to our
awesome events, there are many other venues. To find out what else is
happening in the Twin Cities, check out our community newsletter (updated monthly).
