Argentine Tango

Tango is not based upon sequences or 'steps', so our classes focus on developing a strong foundation and exploring styles and themes. You will be encouraged to improvise from the very beginning and be able to dance comfortably and confidently in a social setting. Please join all Tango classes in the first two weeks of the month, or arrive early to review material with the instructor, Sabine Ibes.

Sabine believes that while we are on the social dance floor the object is to have fun with the dance, and that one can have fun in exploring the opportunities of movement with a partner and look darn good doing so at the same time. The classes that she teaches are well-balanced, inventive and creative. She is very keen on the fact that the student has to feel comfortable while dancing. A relaxed body and mind will create a comfortable connection so the partner feels a sense of being safe. Sabine is an enthusiast of Nuevo (new) Tango, organic moves within Tango while reflecting on the more traditional roots of Argentine Tango. This means that she focuses on a fusion of close and open embrace Tango.

Argentine Tango Classes

Tango Foundations, Part 1

6 o’clock
In foundation 1 series we switch every month from open embrace classics to the close embrace classics. You need to complete these 2 months before moving on to Foundation 2.  You will learn: Walking in parallel system, walking in cross system, cruzadas, rock steps, turns to the left in parallel system, backward/ forward ochos (pivots), and ocho cortados in these 8 weeks.

Tango Foundations, Part 2 and 3

7 o'clock
Your Tango is not complete without the Milonga. This is the one of the oldest forms of Argentine Tango and is not, as many believe, a simple fast tango. Nor is it complicated either. In this class Eric and Sabine will help you understand the milonga, make you feel comfortable with all the rhythmic movements, and confident on the social dance floor.

Tango Intermediate/Advanced

8:15 pm
How to interpret the music on a crowded dance floor. How to keep a nice connection without squeezing each other breathless. How to turn around each other without elbows protruding in another couples eye. What to do with those feet when they are so close to each other, where to move them in a fun sequence you can use over and over on a crowded (and not so crowded) dance floor.  And did you know that you can do "large" movements really small?  How? Come to our class and we will show you the way.
